The Social Entrepreneurial Student Leadership (SESL) Challenge was co-created in 2006 by Howard Brodsky, CEO/Founder of CCA Global and Elizabeth Fletcher Foy, Founder/President of Leadership Teacher and The Center for Real World Education on the premise that young adults have the power to foster social change in their communities.
The upcoming generation will inherit some daunting challenges, but we believe in the power of young adults worldwide and in the idea that anything can be solved when you combine a social need or desire and an entrepreneurial spirit. We believe that your generation has untapped potential to bring a fresh prospective to the complex challenges our global community faces and to create viable and innovative solutions to address these challenges. We believe that you have the vision, enthusiasm, networking support, and creative problem solving skills necessary to become leaders in the growing field of social entrepreneurism.
Globally, social entrepreneurship is gaining attention as an expanding field that has enormous potential to usher in beneficial and sustainable social change and dramatically improve people's lives. Indeed, the transformative outcomes of recent social entrepreneurs, such as Muhammad Yunus founder of Microcredit, Pierre Omidyar founder of eBay, and Victoria Hale founder of OneWorldHealth, have inspired a new generation of entrepreneurs and of venture capitalists who recognize the profoundly positive impact SE ventures can have on our global economy.
